EDUARDO LIMA -- PLAYER OF THE WEEK & TEAM OF WEEK SELECTION

Freshman striker Eduardo Lima of the men's soccer team has been selected to the Soccer America Men's "Team of the Week" for games through November 10. It is the second time this season Lima has received the honor as he also was selected for the week of September 22.

He was also the Connection Newspapers/George Mason University Athlete of the Week. It is the second time (the other was Sept. 23) this season Lima has been chosen.

Lima, a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and a 1994 graduate of the Institute of Arts and Science (INDAC) in Brazil, had an outstanding week as he led the Patriots to a pair of victories. He scored George Mason's lone goal in a 1-0 victory at Towson State last Wednesday, then he scored two goals and assisted on the other as the Patriots upset top-ranked Virginia, 3-0, at George Mason Stadium Saturday. George Mason concluded its regular season with a 12-4-3 overall record, 3-3-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Lima, who also was selected as the CAA "Player of the Week" assisted on George Mason's first goal against the No. 1 Cavaliers, passing to senior Vincent Marcotrigiano to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead at 9:24. He then picked up his two goals in the second half, the first coming off a clean through pass from Marcotrigiano and the second was unassisted as he made a spin move around a defender and beat the goalkeeper to clinch the victory.

Lima has scored six of George Mason's last eight goals this season, and he twice has produced two-goal efforts (against East Carolina Oct. 30 and vs. Virginia) in the past three games. Lima leads the Patriots with 11 goals, seven assists and 29 points, and his point total is the second-highest by a freshman in George Mason history, trailing only the 50 points (school-record 24 goals, two assists) by Sam Sumo in 1985.

"Eduardo is a quality player who has an innate ability to score goals," said George Mason head coach Gordon Bradley. "He has certainly proven over the past few weeks that he belongs among the elite players in our conference and the region."
