KRISTEENA ALEXANDER NAMED GMU PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Freshman point guard Kristeena Alexander of the George Mason womens basketball team has been named the Connection Newspapers/George Mason University Player of the Week.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday, the 5-6 point guard from Hempstead, NY, was named the Most Valuable Player at the Hosss/Red Flash Classic at Saint Francis College in Loretto, PA. In the two-game tournament, Alexander had 31 points, four steals and nine assists to lead the Patriots to the championship title.

In Saturdays title game vs Saint Francis, Alexander was the driving force down the stretch scoring eight points in the final minutes and assisting on the game winning basket. Alexander keyed a 20-4 George Mason run as they battled back from a 13-point deficit to win the game. She finished with 16 points as George Mason defeated the Red Flash 61-57.

In the 70-61 win over Boston University she led the squad with 15 points and a career high six assists. She was five-for-seven from the field and also had four rebounds and a blocked shot.

Alexander has led the Patriots in scoring in all three games this year and is averaging 14.7 points per game. She has a team leading 12 assists and seven steals.

In her first collegiate game at #8 NC State Alexander had a team high 13 points, three assists and three steals.

Alexander was a WBCA/Nike All-American at Christ the King High School in Queens, NY. She was the New York City and New York State Player of the Year and led her team to a #2 ranking by USA Today.
