Two frontcourt players have signed national letters of intent to join the George Mason men's basketball program next fall, it was announced today by head coach Paul Westhead.
George Evans, a 6-7, 215-pound forward and Terrance Nixon, a 6-6, 210-pound forward will play for the Patriots next season.
Evans, from Portsmouth, VA (Woodrow Wilson H.S.), currently plays for the Aberdeen (MD) Army Base team where he averages nearly 40.0 points and 18.0 rebounds for his club which averages over 100 points per game. Aberdeen plays against other military bases, prepatory schools and collegiate junior varsity teams. Evans is an all-Army selection and has played in the Combined Federal Services Organization tournament in Italy. He will have four years of eligibility at George Mason.
"George has great speed for his body and is exciting around the basket," Westhead said. "He is a skilled player, strong and can score inside. He plays above the rim."
Nixon, from Oxon Hill, MD (Oxon Hill H.S.), a three-year varsity starter, averaged 18.0 points and 10.0 rebounds for his Oxon Hill team last year. He shot 53 percent from the field and 76 percent from the line. A second team all-state and second team all-Prince George's County selection, Nixon also averaged 2.5 blocks and 2.0 assists per contest. In addition to his high school squad he plays for the AAU Team Assault club.
"Terrance is very strong and an active power forward," Westhead said. "He is a terrific rebounder and has a nice, soft outside jumper."
