Senior hitter Olga Matejickova of the women's volleyball team has been named the George Mason Athlete of the Week.
The 6-1 middle blocker/outside hitter had an outstanding weekend for the Patriots. She was named the MVP of the Brion's Grille/Patriot Invitational, where she helped her squad win two-out-of-three matches to claim second place in the tournament.
Matejickova was also named the Colonial Athletic Association's Player of the Week. This is the second time in two years she has received Player of the Week honors. In the three matches, over the weekend the Prague, Czech Republic native, had a team high 53 kills, 42 digs and 11 blocks.
"We're seeing strong, steady play from Olga," said head coach Pat Kendrick. "She's really been a force for us. Olga is a quiet leader that can do it all--from putting the ball away to playing good defense."
Matejickova had a double-double in all three matches for George Mason. Against Auburn she had a team high 19 kills and 11 digs to go along with five total blocks. Against UMBC she had 16 kills and 17 digs and vs. Utah State she had 18 kills and 14 digs.
She is leading the Patriots in kills (129), hitting percentage (.264), service aces (15) and digs (102). She also has 28 total blocks (7 solo, 21 assist) just one shy of the team leader in that category.

Last season, Matejickova's first at George Mason, she was a first team All-CAA selection as well as being named to the first team All-District 3. She finished the season ranked 25th in the NCAA for her .364 hitting percentage.
Matejickova was also voted to the All-Tournament team at the Temple Invitational in the opening weekend this season.
