Senior men's basketball player Nate Langley has been selected as the Connection Newspapers/George Mason University Athlete of the Week as well as being named the Colonial Athletic Association's Player of the Week.
Langley, a 6-3 senior guard, led the Patriots to a pair of wins last week. In a 107-98 victory over Morehead State on Dec. 3, he scored 25 points, grabbed a career high nine rebounds and passed for five assists in 29 minutes. He made eight of 21 field goals, including a pair of 3-pointers, and connected on seven of 10 free throws.
In last Saturday's 85-81 upset win over Big 12 foe Colorado, Langley scored a season high 28 points and helped rally the Patriots from an 11-point second half deficit. Langley added seven assists, five rebounds and five steals in the first ever George Mason victory over a Big 12 Conference opponent. After scoring 13 points in the first half, Langley hit for 15 in the final 20 minutes, including 11 in the last 8:21 when the Patriots made their decisive run.
For the week, Langley averaged 26.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists.
Langley has been the team's top scorer in the first four games. He is averaging 24.5 points and 5.5 rebounds. He is shooting 48.1 percent from the field and 65.4 percent from the line. Langley leads the team in scoring, assists (19), steals (19) and minutes (117) and is second in 3-point field goals (seven).
Langley's performance against Colorado drew the praise of Buffaloes head coach Ricardo Patton.
"You have to contain his penetration," he said. "He is a really good shooter. We tried to contain him as well as we could."
Langley, a preseason Colonial Athletic Conference first team selection, leads the Patriots into two games this week, Tuesday at home against Long Beach State and Saturday at Ohio State.
