Senior Krista Jay of the women's basketball team has been named the George Mason Athlete of the Week.
Jay was also named the Colonial Athletic Association's Player of the Week for her outstanding performance in three games last week.
In three games last week, Jay averaged 17.3 points per game as George Mason claimed victories against Seton Hall and Morgan State, while falling to top-ranked Tennessee.
"Krista has continued to show that she's one of the best players in the CAA especially against better competition," said head coach Jim Lewis. " I think she's proved time and again that she can play with the elite athletes in the country. We're especially pleased with Krista this season. As a senior, she has become the complete player that we expected her to be."
On Thursday, Jay put the Patriots in the 1997 win column as she tallied 18 points (six-of-13 from the field, four-of-four from the foul line) along with three assists and one steal in a 80-67 over Seton Hall.
In the Big Apple Classic at Manhattan, the 5-10 senior guard, was voted to the All-Tournament team after notching 20 points against No. 1 Tennessee. She converted 8-of-13 from the floor despite being guarded by All-America Chamique Holdsclaw for some of the game.
On Sunday, in the consolation game win over Morgan State, Jay led George Mason with a team high 14 points to go along with two steals and one assist in just 25 minutes of play.
Jay, a 1997-98 co-captain, is just one of two players to have started in all five games this season. She's leading George Mason averaging 15.8 points per game. She also ranks fourth in the CAA in scoring.
With 1,101 points the Artemas, PA, currently ranks 10th in the Patriot record books for all-time scorers. She also ranks third for all-time three-pointers made with 125.
