Senior Carolyn Jaeger of the George Mason women's volleyball team has been named this week's George Mason "Athlete of the Week."
Jaeger, a 6-0 senior middle blocker/outside hitter from Toronto, Ontario, had an outstanding week as the Patriots won two-of-three matches.
In all three matches last week, Jaeger had double figure kills. At George Washington, she had 13 kills. At East Carolina she had 12 kills and at UNC Wilmington she finished with 11 kills. She averaged 3.6 kills per game. Jaeger also finished with 28 digs for a 2.8 per game average.
Against ECU, Jaeger tied a career-high aces with four. Twice this year she has served up four aces as well (at Virginia Commonwealth 10/17/97 and at William & Mary 10/18/97).
This season Jaeger earned Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week honors (10/20/97). That week she had 26 kills, nine aces and 32 digs in nine games. She hit a season best .476 along with 12 kills and 14 digs against CAA foe William & Mary.
Along with a new career high's aces, the two-time Patriot team captain had a new career record established as she had 21 kills at American (10/21/97).
Jaeger has had double figure kills in 15 matches and she has had double figure digs in 11 matches.
She currently ranks second on the team in kills (270), service aces (26) and digs (243). During her four year career with George Mason Jaeger has played in almost 300 games and has over 500 career kills and 500 career digs.
Jaeger and the Patriots (12-13, 7-2 CAA) are in action again this Friday as they host William & Mary (7-17, 3-7) at 7:30 pm at the John Linn Gym.
